You know, even though they should have had the cones up first, I have a feeling even if they were there she would have still fallen in.
If she didn't see the big gaping hole, if her friend who was not texting didn't see the hole and didn't warn her, then the cones may not have made a hell of a lot of difference.

She really should have been paying attention, she's lucky it was just a five foot drop into a hole and not her walking out into oncoming traffic and getting hit by a bus.
